Travel: Skincare products and routine for long-haul flights
I’ll be traveling again in the next few days and I have just started packing. I will be flying this time for over 15 straight hours. Here is a rundown of the skincare products that I’m bringing on the plane with me and my skincare routine. Read: In-flight spa opportunity.
Bioderma Sensibio H2O Solution Micellaire, Muji travel bottle in 30 ml.
Most of the time, I always get ( because I harass sales associates) samples and travel sizes for my skincare line. If I don’t have them, I transfer the product to smaller containers, such as this one. Remember, liquids over 30 ml are not allowed on most carriers.
After I have settled in my seat and before the first meal is served (usually, 30 minutes after take-off), I will go ahead and start my regimen.
- Make-up removal with Bioderma Sensibio H2O Solution Micellaire. This is an all-in-one formula and doesn’t require washing afterwards, so if you’re too far from the lavatory you don’t really have to.
- Cleansing. I wash my face with SK-II Facial Treatment Gentle Cleanser.
- (After the first meal is served, or after eating) I put on my SK-II Facial Treatment Mask. Yes, I look like Jason from Friday the 13th on most flights, but I don’t really care. I’m not going to see these people again anyway.
- I apply SK-II Advanced Eye treatment film in my under-eye area.
I leave the mask on until it dries or after a few hours. I would read a book or drink and watch a movie in the meantime.
I try to get at least 6 hours of sleep on these long flights. After the facial mask treatment has been soaked into my skin for a few hours and before I catch some z’s…
- Cleanse.
- I dab a thin layer of the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence.
- I moisturize with SK-II Skin Signature Melting Rich cream (normally, this cream would be too rich for me, but with the dry cabin air, it helps my skin rehydrate). I skip 4 and 5 if I have time to sleep.
- (6) I apply Clarins Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm as needed.
Two hours before landing…
- Cleanse (again, to remove all that gunk and product build-up).
- If I feel the need to refresh my face some more, I’ll use the treatment essence again.
- Eye treatment.
- I use Chanel Precision Lifting firming day cream as it doubles as a make-up primer if I’m arriving at night. ( I normally use Clarins Beauty Flash balm but I don’t have the sample size, so this one will do)
- I’ll apply Laneige SPF 50 Sunblock if my arrival is in the morning. (Laneige is a very good skincare line from Korea that I’ve been trying lately)
- Lip moisturizer.
- After putting on my make-up, I use TATCHA beauty papers for retouching and blotting excess oil before landing.
L’occitane hand cream, Clarins Lip balm.
A good and reliable hand cream and lip moisturizer is a must for long-haul flights. That horrible cabin air strips the skin off of its natural moisture, so rehydrate and moisturize as much as possible.
I organize my skincare products in one of these TSA-approved plastic bags. I bought this bag from Target last year. I find that it’s more practical to use and sturdier than disposable plastic bags. I guess that’s it!
Hope that helped!
Happy Travels! xx

Thank you so much!
I guess all that skin care sure helps to pass the time on a long flight. I’m impressed by the extent of your routine!
😀 Thank you! I guess I eventually developed the routine as a result of boredom and lots of unproductive flying hours.
