    • It was a great experience! Yes, this Kaiseki was supposed to be served in our room, but the owner of the ryokan moved us to an empty room with a view of their Zen garden, which made it extra special.

  1. Please tell us which ryokan this was…I had the pleasure of staying at Hiragaya many years ago in Kyoto and it was completely magical. I have had several kaiseki meals, and wished that iPhones were around then! You are very fortunate. It looks spectacular!

    • It was beyond beautiful and to this day I still catch myself dreaming about it. This was at the Shiraume ryokan in the Gion District. It’s smaller than Hiragaya, I believe, but it was so private and personal. Which worked perfectly for the quiet, romantic getaway I had planned with my husband.:)
